FIR, the Research Institute for Rationalization and Operations Management at Aachen University of Technology (RWTH), is specialized in production management, logistics, service management and e-Business. It operates in national and international networks and cooperates with different associations and institutes like the German Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Technology (BMB+F), the German Research Foundation (DFG), the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union. In the private sector there are a number of short, medium and long term projects with companies of both the manufacturing and service industry. FIR has a multi-disciplinary staff of approximately 40 consultants and research assistants with master degrees or equivalent who possess a unique mix of experience and skills in engineering, computer sciences and business. FIR has participated and coordinated several EU funded projects. FIR is the coordinator of the Tool-East project.
